Hands-On Universe (HOU) is an educational program that enables student-centered research to investigate the Universe, applying tools and concepts from science, math, and technology. Using the Internet, HOU participants around the world request observations from professional observatories, download telescope images to classroom computers and analyze them using powerful image processing software. The Lawrence Hall of Science (LHS) at University of California, Berkeley (UCB), is the educational center for the HOU project. HOU materials can be found in hundreds of classrooms across the world, including U.S. Department of Defense Dependent Schools.HOU has received support from the National Science Foundation, the Department of Defense, and the Department of Energy to develop and pilot test high school curriculum materials that support national standards in open-ended astronomical investigations. HOU has also developed activities and tools for middle school students and products for informal science education centers.See
